UNK’s Study Abroad Program is traveling to the Czech Republic next May following almost a year of travel restrictions that forced the program to cancel its trips. For the students who still want to travel, this will provide an opportunity to journey out of the country with UNK.

Students will be studying at Palacký University in Olomouc and will be in Europe from May 9-30. The trip consists of six days of morning and afternoon classes, as well as evening discussions. Students attending will be enrolled in INTS 425 International Studies Institute and will receive three credit hours.

Olomouc is located in the heart of Europe, allowing students to travel to other cities and attractions such as the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial in Poland, museum explorations in Vienna, Austria and a tour of the theaters and castles of Český Krumlov as well as the Old Jewish Cemetery and rivers of Prague, Czech Republic.

Topics and major themes of the trip include studies about European and American civilization, experiences in European culture and history and immersion in the arts, culture and traditions of Europe.

The cost of the program is $2,650 for all lodging and transportation during the program, entrance fees, insurance and UNK tuition & fees. It is estimated that students will need an additional $1,500 for airfare, food and other costs on the trip.

The trip may be canceled if travel restrictions are not lifted by March 1, 2021 or if they have fewer than 15 students sign up. The program is only allowed to admit 25 students, so interested students should sign up quickly.

Students can register at https://www.unk.edu/international/studyabroad/index.php. The process requires setting up an advising appointment and choosing the program you want to apply for. After applying, students will receive a formal application to the program by early December.
