Starting March 23, all
University of Nebraska
students will be required
to sign up for the two-
factor authentification. It’s
a second level of security
for all university-associated
accounts. If students don’t
sign up by the deadline,
they will be locked out of all
accounts associated with their
university email addresses.
Two-factor authentification is set to help eliminate compromised emails, or hacked emails. Compromised emails have always been
an issue within the UNK email system. Last semester, over 700 emails were compromised.
DuoMobile is an app that can be downloaded onto any mobile device. It takes less than two minutes to sign up for the app. It’s set to send a notification via a push pin to your mobile device, a text or phone call when the account is logged into.
After the verification steps, students will be able to access all accounts and can stay logged in for 12 hours if need be.
“Even if someone does figure out your email or
password, they won’t be able to get into your account because they will need your mobile device to approve the login,” said Ayush Dhungel, IT student worker. DuoMobile will also work for those who do not have smartphones or tablets.
If students are intimidated by this process, there are
resources they can turn to
for guidance. Two-Factor-
Tuesday is set to help students
sign up for the app and
further explain how it works
and why it is needed.
If students cannot sign up during Two-Factor-Tuesday, they can go to the UNK IT office for help to seting up a DuoMobile account.
