“Episode Aigis” is wave three of the “Persona 3 Reload: Expansion Pass,” and is the only planned downloadable content to come for the game. It continues the main game’s story and wraps up everything with a new main protagonist, Aigis, leading this tale.
“Persona 3 Reload” was released earlier this year on Feb. 1, but “Episode Aigis” recently came out on Sept. 10.
The game is a Japanese role-playing game that follows a student named Makoto, who must not only balance his school and life duties but also battle against shadows to save humanity. “Persona 3 Reload” is a remake of the original “Persona 3” game that was released back in 2004, while “Episode Aigis” is a remake of “Persona 3 FES” that was released in 2012. For those who want to play the game, it is recommended to play the remakes as they are still faithful to their original counterparts’ stories while changing up the graphics and music to fit with modern times.
Without spoiling too much, “Episode Aigis” continues from the ending of “Persona 3 Reload” and introduces a new perspective from one of your party members named Aigis. From then on, it branches out to becoming not only a new journey for the team to overcome, but also face their struggles. It comes down to accepting the truth that faces them and being able to heal or stay stuck in the past full of regret of what could have been.
“Episode Aigis” is not one to shy away from different emotions not only as a player to learn, but as humans to emphasize with, especially with the loss of a loved one. We are given questions and scenarios to make us think about the choices we could or would make. When the player’s journey reaches its near end, they are met with decisions and questions that must be answered. Can a person accept their present and move forward having grown from it or are they better off trying to change the past to bring back someone who has died? It is a very heavy topic but one that is done with justice in terms of writing and with the incredible cast of voice actors that bring out the raw emotions.
“Persona 3 Reload” comes from a series which I hold dear to my heart known as the “Megami Tensei” franchise. Having finished “Persona 4” and “Persona 5,” a 20-year-old remake for modern gaming allows a new audience with easier accessibility.. With its stunning graphic overhaul, the soundtracks that have heads moving and incredible cast of characters, it is no surprise this game was well received by audiences. Personally, I am addicted to the soundtrack for this game. It is understandably not everyone’s cup of tea, but ones who like hip-hop pop or upbeat songs could enjoy it.
It is difficult to talk about this game without spoiling it too much. However, it is very much recommended to enjoy “Persona 3 Reload” and go into “Episode Aigis” to get a full experience of this. If anyone is looking for a new game that will take a long time to complete, this will be exactly what they are looking for.
