In celebration of the 25th anniversary of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” Wendy’s has begun selling a collaboration meal nationwide titled “Wendy’s Krabby Patty Kollab.” This collaboration began on Oct. 8 and will last up until Nov. 3.
As a fan of the yellow sponge who was nothing but joy in my childhood, this collaboration excited me when it was first announced.
For those who haven’t heard of this collaboration, “SpongeBob SquarePants” began on May 1, 1999, with its first episode titled “Help Wanted.” In that episode, we are introduced to the staple food for the “Krusty Krab” known as the Krabby Patty. This well-known fictional food is one that many have been dying to know what it tastes like – it seems to be a delicacy for the people in Bikini Bottom.
Many fans and restaurants have tried to recreate this underwater burger in the past, but this is the first time it has been given out to the major public.
The “Wendy’s Krabby Patty Kollab” consists of the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger, fries and the Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty. Unfortunately for those who may want to wash it down with a drink, you will need to pay extra as this meal does not come included with Diet Dr. Kelp. Nevertheless, this meal is more than enough to fill anyone’s rumbling stomach during lunch rush or for those who may be a pink starfish with a craving for it at 3 am.
Customers are given the choice of choosing single, double or triple for their Krabby Patty and a choice of size for their Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty.
The Krabby Patty Kollab Burger has the standard ingredients any other burger would have. It includes the patty, bun, lettuce, cheese, onions, tomatoes, pickles and the secret Krabby Patty sauce. For someone who has been dying to know what it would taste like, I was not very impressed by it. It is not bad, but my expectations were high and this just felt like another burger from Wendy’s known as the Dave’s Single with Thousand Island Dressing mixed into it. It was still good and was something I could finish off easily.
Though for those who might expect a lot from this burger, be sure to understand that this is still a fast-food restaurant that must get orders out as quickly as possible.
I washed it down with a Coca-Cola and French fries. This part of the meal is very standard for Wendy’s. There is no gimmick to these two items. This meal just feels like a regular combo from the restaurant.
The meal’s packaging did not help it out either. It was advertised with a special wrapping and box, but none were to be found for this poor reviewer.
I tried the Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty last to hopefully save what was left of this meal.
The Frosty is a standard vanilla flavoring with a mixture of pineapple mango puree swirl. Upon first taste, this was a very refreshing treat to have after chowing down on the meal. The vanilla with the puree swirl was extremely sweet but not enough for it to be overpowering. It was a perfect combination that I am dying to go for again and again. I highly recommend this for those who are curious, especially because it was the best part of the meal for me.
My friend also got to take a crack at the meal. A lot of her thoughts mirrored mine. The burger was okay, but nothing to be excited about. Despite not being a fan of pineapple, she finished her Frosty with zero hesitation.
To me, it showed that Wendy’s can create good delicacies, but sometimes not all their creations will be winners.
I feel that if they took another crack at this sometime in the future, they could outdo themselves with the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger.
Overall, the “Wendy’s Krabby Patty Kollab” is a fine collaboration. There are many ups and downs with it, but it’s worth a try for “SpongeBob SquarePants” fans. This limited-time celebration won’t leave consumers with an upset stomach, but instead with excitement for future collaborations.
