American singer-songwriter Benson Boone released his new single, “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else,” in late February. The track marks his latest drop since the launch of his debut album, “Fireworks & Rollerblades.”
“Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” is an upbeat pop-rock anthem with a pulsing drumline, guitar riffs and occasional piano touches. The song is about running into an old flame while waiting for a date with someone else.
Boone’s storytelling talent is evident throughout the entirety of the track.
The song starts with lyrics like “I’m sorry, I’m here for someone else, but it’s good to see your face,” which is also the main chorus. As the track continues, Boone sings about his date running late and how they’re “far from perfect for each other.”
The next verse illustrates Boone waiting at a diner when a waitress walks up with an order of French fries. The lyrics “And I know you, yes I know you, used to love you,” suggest he had a past romantic relationship with the waitress. After encountering his ex, Boone wishes he could stay with her and talk at the bar by themselves.
In the second verse, Boone sings about his date arriving at the diner. Flipping the script, he changes his mind and decides to cut the date short. The chorus repeats, but, this time, Boone is here for someone else – his old flame.
The bridge and outro of the song are my personal favorite parts.
At the start of the bridge, the sound of the track changes with the addition of synthesizers and background vocals. In the bridge, Boone admits that he is still in love with his ex.
As the bridge transitions into the outro of the song, it is amplified by the sound of a piano tune and the drumline picking up again. As the song reaches the end, Boone sings about running for the kitchen doors of the diner to reignite his relationship with his old flame. The powerful and upbeat ending of the song left me wanting more.
My only complaint is that the song is short, lasting just over two and a half minutes. Other than that, I believe this single is a great start to Boone’s plans for 2025.
Coming from a small town in Washington state, Boone’s career as a successful recording artist began in early 2021.
Boone first started picking up traction after his decision to leave the singing competition show “American Idol” in 2021. Since then, he has become globally recognized with the help of TikTok and his singles “In The Stars” and “Beautiful Things.” After only four years, Boone has garnered billions of streams across multiple streaming platforms, reached number two with “Beautiful Things” on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and was nominated for a Grammy.
“Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” is the perfect start to a new era in Benson Boone’s career. It’s a catchy, upbeat track with a sweet story that many people can relate to and enjoy. I’m giving “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” four out of five Loper stars.
