College life often falls into a repetitive routine that can lead to burnout, stress and even boredom. Taking a break from our hectic schedules is essential for maintaining balance and mental health.
When I think about all the ways we can take a break from our busy lives and regroup, I think of traveling.
Traveling is a great way to leave behind responsibilities and take a moment to de-stress. Through travel, we can enjoy personal time and have fun while doing it.
The best part about traveling is that it’s completely up to college students where they go, what they do, who they go with and how long they stay. By the end of the trip, students will be ready to jump back into their busy college lives.
While traveling gives college students a break from reality, there are also many benefits.
By traveling, students step out of their comfort zones and have the opportunity to explore and experience different cultures and environments. The benefits of traveling include improved communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.
Traveling also helps relieve stress, boosts mental well-being, increases self-confidence, enhances adaptability and academic learning, and teaches students how to budget and save money. It also promotes independence, motivation and personal growth.
Travel has been a huge part of my life.
Growing up, my family and I took a vacation every summer. I looked forward to that week every day of the year. It’s what got me through the tough days.
I love nature and exploring national parks. Some of the national parks we’ve visited over the years include the Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park and all five national parks in Utah. We’ve also visited beach towns, including Sanibel Island, Florida and Galveston, Texas.
My favorite place I’ve visited is Estes Park, Colorado. Estes Park is in a valley at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. We’ve been there every year since I was 3 years old. It’s become a family tradition.
Traveling has made my life 10 times better, and I will always cherish the memories I’ve made and will continue to make on those trips. Traveling has boosted my mental health, communication skills, self-confidence and curiosity. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I hadn’t traveled outside of Nebraska.
Traveling doesn’t have to be a stressful situation that breaks the bank.
There are many ways students can save money when traveling. Flights, hotels and activities are often cheaper when booked in advance. Many airlines, hotels, transportation companies and attractions offer student discounts.
Traveling in a group can save money by splitting the cost of the trip. Instead of spending $20 at a restaurant for every meal, cook your own meals. Bringing reusable water bottles and snacks saves money spent on bottled water and snacks for the road. By planning ahead and using their resources, students can travel without spending too much.
Taking time for yourself is important in order to maintain balance during your college years.
It’s not uncommon for college students to get overwhelmed. We all need time to recharge every now and then. So, go on a study abroad trip through UNK. Grab a few friends and plan a trip over spring break. Go to that concert in the city over the weekend. Relax and take that well-deserved break.
