We can’t get far into our day without coming into contact with the arts.
A pump-up song awakens us as our alarm goes off in the mornings. We like photos as we scroll through social media. As we wind down for the night, we watch an episode of our favorite show.
We consume products of the arts daily.
The Antelope believes that the arts are an important program to be taught at the university level.
The arts have a large marketability as much of our media is derived from the arts. It can range from the social media posts we like, advertisements we see and photos we take to the music we listen to, movies we watch or TV shows we binge. The arts make up a large portion of our world, widening the variety of careers in the field.
Many students find solace in the arts. The arts provide a way to escape and express oneself. One is able to communicate through a different form such as music, dance or the visual arts. They allow the ability to translate thoughts or feelings through a different expression that can’t be found elsewhere, heightening its importance.
Whether or not a student is an art major, they can get involved and be impacted by the arts. It’s required to take either a visual arts or performing arts class for general studies. Beyond that, students can get involved in programs, performances or events hosted by the art program no matter their degree.
Our staff believes that art education is beneficial and necessary. We see the value in learning about art, not just participating in it. Learning about art allows one’s knowledge and capabilities to grow in ways that can’t come from anywhere else.
There are many different areas of art within each form. Classes in the arts allow a greater exploration and understanding of more specialized areas of arts. As experts in their fields, professors are able to help students dive deeper into that in ways that couldn’t be done alone.
Having an arts program at the university level can also be a unique experience for students who come from a high school without one. Not only does it provide opportunities that students may not have previously had, but it also exposes them to something new. The arts allow students to learn new things and explore a different world.
The Antelope encourages students to support the arts.
