Demolition has begun at University Residence North and South, which previously housed UNK’s fraternities and sororities. The project is expected to be completed in November, and the sites will be turned into green space available for future development.
URN and URS were built in 1991 and 1992 to help temporarily meet housing needs. The two buildings were designed to only last 20 years. Fraternity members moved into Martin Hall following its renovations in January 2023. A year later, sorority members moved into the newly built Bess Furman Armstrong Hall.
The two buildings remained open through the 2024 spring semester to house relocated offices and departments. These offices have since moved back to their permanent locations in the Calvin T. Ryan Library and Warner Hall.
