From small group performances to full-scale orchestra’s, UNK Music students are gearing up for a busy and eventful Spring semester.
Thomas Prentice, a senior double major in Music and Psychobiology from Grand Island has his senior recital later this semester. Even though the exact date of his recital is still being set up, the arduous practices and repetition will be worth it.
“It’s nerve-wracking knowing one of my most important performances in my life is coming soon,” Prentice said. “It will be worth it in the end to end on a strong note” he added.
The Kearney Symphony Orchestra will be kicking off their Spring season of concerts on Feb. 26 with “Romance and All that Jazz.” The orchestra’s overarching theme of the semester, which includes the month of February, will be romance.
Connor Merchant Smith is a Music major from Grand Island and a four year performer in the Kearney Symphony Orchestra.
“Being involved in KSO has been great to practice my music chops and get ready for longer more complex performances,” Merchant Smith said.
“While it’s fun playing and practicing Christmas songs, in my opinion, the Spring semesters have more unique pieces that we perform.”
The Kearney Symphony Orchestra will have another performance on April 23 titled “Dances of Love”. “It’s an interesting selection of music for this semester and pushes us to practice and continue putting on great performances,” Merchant Smith said. “Knowing you finished a performance with different students and the Kearney community is special” he added.
