The UNK softball team started their year 4-2 with a trip to Honolulu, HI at the Ulili Softball Invitational. The Lopers came out on top in four of those games, thanks to three different wins by one run.
The Lopers downed Hillsdale twice, winning the first matchup 5-4 thanks to a walk-off triple from senior Eden McNally. McNally would also score the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth against Hillsdale the second time around on a passed ball. UNK also picked up a 7-6 win over Lewis. The Lopers scored five runs to help them win. Their other win came against Chaminade thanks to a strong outing from freshman Jerzie Schindler in her first collegiate start, pitching five innings of one run ball.
The two losses were against Ferris State 7-4 and Hawai’i-Hilo 5-4. Alyssa Fortik led the way on the weekend, going 10-19 with seven RBI’s. Madeline Janssen picked up a pair of wins and didn’t allow an earned run through 13.1 innings.
