The fourth ranked Lopers had a dual against the 21st ranked Central Missouri in which UNK dominated winning the dual 33-9. The Lopers had two falls, two tech falls and two major decisions to take down the Mules.
The Lopers took control early in the dual in the light weights.
UNK rolled off three straight victories. First at 133 pounds Hector Serratos, the current “MIAA wrestler of the week” won in comeback fashion with a late takedown in the third period. In the next match eighth ranked Jospeh Airola at 141 pounds got the 16-0 tech fall. Brady Collins picked up the 5-0 decision at 149 pounds.
UNK started off the dual down six with Central Missouri’s fourth ranked Jackason Burks getting the fall versus Adonis Latimore at 125 pounds.
Central Missouri at 157 pounds eighth ranked John Ridle getting a 7-0 decision over Cael Cobb.
It was all UNK after that. At 165 pounds, eighth ranked Trenton Munoz got the fall at the 3:15 mark. Jacobi Deal at 174 pounds won with a 17-8 major decision. Fifth ranked Jackson Kinsella at 197 pounds won 11-3 major decision. To finish off the night, the top ranked heavyweight in Division II Crew Howard got the tech fall 17-1 and he is now 19-0 on the year.
The marquee match of the night was at 184 pounds, UNK’s eighth ranked Jacari Deal matched up against 12th ranked Damon Ashworth. It was a close match throughout in which Deal forced overtime in the third period with an escape. In overtime Deal won in sudden victory with a takedown winning the match 8-5.
There were four exhibition matches prior in which UNK came out on top in each match. Gavyn Brauer at 174 pounds won by decision 14-7. At 184 pounds, Tate Kuchera won by major decision 9-1. The two heavyweights, Tre Daro, won by decision 9-3 and Jack Allen won by fall at the 4:15 mark.
UNK will be on the road coming up this week. They will dual Newman University on Thursday. On Friday, they will dual fifth ranked Central Oklahoma. UNK will look to avenge their 22-14 loss at nationals in early January to the Bronchos.
