Students were able to connect with 62 schools at UNK’s annual Education Opportunities Fair. This event allows students to make beneficial connections for their careers.
Schools from all over the state of Nebraska and two out-of-state schools made the trip to come to UNK and be a part of the Education Opportunities Fair. School administrators said they enjoyed coming to this event and connecting with students at UNK.
“We look forward to the opportunity to make connections in all aspects of their (students’) educational process, and hopefully convince them that the northeast corner of Nebraska is a great place to come live and teach,” said Jill Gill, human resources director at South Sioux City Community Schools.
The annual fair is put on by the Academic Advising and Career Development Department to connect students with school administrators and gain potential job opportunities. Students were given a list of the schools and the current job openings before the fair so they could get insight beforehand.
This event helps connect students with schools they may otherwise not have had on their radar. Keeping up with the school’s socials and website can provide more valuable insights into the program.
There are many benefits for students to attend the Education Opportunities Fair. Getting to have face-to-face conversations with school administrators allows students to ask questions, get information directly from the source and get a better understanding of how the school operates. Students get more of an idea of what they are looking for in a future career through speaking with educators from various schools.
“I attended this event to network with schools, and I am going to be connected with a lot of schools and administration that I can grow from,” said Makenzie Corder, elementary education major. “I am interested in getting to know more about and staying connected with Lexington, Cozad and Eustis because they are close to home.”
The fair opens doors to vast opportunities and meaningful relationships with future educators.
“We hope that students leave the Education Opportunities Fair with a greater sense of confidence when talking with school administrators,” said Angela Mercer, UNK career specialist. “We host career fairs to support students’ career development and enhance their future connections. We are committed to bridging the gap between academic experiences and professional development.”
