UNK held its annual inauguration ceremony to swear in Emily Saadi and Zach Zavodny as student body president and vice president, along with the new student senators.
The ceremony began with Truman Lauck, senator of the College of Education, opening with a short welcome and honored past and incoming senators.
Following Lauck, outgoing president Noah Limbach recognized what his cabinet has accomplished within the past year. Some of the accomplishments he highlighted were revised meal plans, a new bookstore, a new textbook provider and introducing peer wellness coaches.
Logan Krejdl, student body adviser, celebrated achievements made by the student court and senators.
Staff and faculty were recognized for their achievements after a student body vote. Tristan Larson, outgoing vice president, presented the outstanding Senator of the Year award to Lauke. Outstanding Staff of the Year was awarded to Debra Gilbertson of facilities management and planning and to Janet Steele, professor of biology.
Saadi and Zavodny took their oath of office for president and vice president. Saadi also took an oath to serve as student regent at the Board of Regents meetings.
Saadi took the stand to deliver her acceptance speech.
“Thank you first to my fellow students and friends who have made the University of Nebraska at Kearney the community and home that we have all come to know and love,” Saadi said.
The ceremony concluded with Dr. Gilbert Hinga congratulating Saadi and Zavodny along with the student senators selected to represent their colleges.
