For any brilliant idea you have, there is likely already an app for that. Have you ever thought wanted to meet people on your college campus with the same schedule and fitness goals as you? Now, there’s an app for that too.
Rec Pals is a new app created by the Campus Recreations facilities, that matches two students up with like-minded fitness goals. The program was designed to motivate UNK gym go-ers by having partners as an accountability mechanism.
To join this program, pick up a postcard hand out from the Campus Rec., scan the QR code and from there fill out your information such as time availability. An email is sent and matched with the best Rec Pal. After the students have been matched, program leader Amanda Dabney signs the pair up for a weekly newsletter with work out ideas for the pair to try and incorporating.
Another great program the Campus Rec offered this semester was group fitness classes in January and February. Classes ranged from cross train, country dance to spinning.
These fitness classes are courses that can be taken for credit hours, but have now been opened to students who are not enrolled in the course.
“We have tried this program before in the past but haven’t had much luck. This semester it seems to have taken off. I have 12 students enrolled in the class and we have had up to 24 students show up for the class,” said Johanna Gilbertson, instructor of the spinning class Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Students can take advantage of this, as well as many other opportunities on campus. Kick start your new year and meet your personal or group fitness goals with the help of Rec Pals and Group Fitness Classes.
