Courtesy photo - Former slave Eliza Galloway was the only black woman in the city of Kearney from the late 1880s to the early 1930s. She was a freed slave who first ran her own catering business, then was the cook and chief of staff at the now historic Frank House while she lived at 517 West 28th, near Harmon Park. At the time of her death in 1936, Galloway was still the only African-American resident in Kearney.
